Density Map on Droughts in Germany

Drought

Step size of time window:   Round grid cells

The map shows the maximum soil moisture index within the selected time window.

The data set describes the soil moisture index (SMI) observed in Germany in the time range from 1990 to 2019. This index is an indicator for droughts. In contrast to the other data sets it is given as raster data, which have translated into point data by considering the centers of the cells. With this we obtained over 8 millions events each annotated with the SMI. Despite its rasterized appearance we consider this data set in our experiments as it is large and each event has an additional weight. Hence, it is a suitable benchmark set for the evaluation of the delta-structure.

The data has been obtained from UFZ-Dürremonitor/ Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung.

We do not assume any warranty and liability for the accuracy of the data, but the only purpose of this map is to showcase the developed data structure and its applicability.
